Precision GrazingLivestock Feed BudgetIndicative dry matter planning tool

Step 1 of 5

Introduction

What this tool does and what you will need before you start.

What this tool does

It calculates the dry matter demand of the livestock groups you enter, converts the feed sources you enter into usable tonnes of dry matter, and shows whether the planned feed supply covers livestock demand over the period you choose.

Dry matter (DM)

Dry matter is what is left of a feed once all of the water is removed. It is the part that actually feeds the animal, so both demand and supply in this tool are worked out in tonnes of dry matter (t DM).

What you will need

  • The start and end dates of the period you want to budget for.
  • The number of animals in each livestock group and the dates each group is included in the feed plan.
  • The quantity and dry matter details for each feed source, or its usable dry matter total if already known.

Saving and comparing budgets

Your current budget is saved automatically in this browser on this device. If you refresh the page or close the tab, return to the same web address using the same browser and your latest saved budget will normally be restored.

The tool stores one current budget only. To compare different scenarios, print or save the Results page as a PDF before changing the livestock, feed or dates. Your changes will replace the previously saved draft.

Bookmark this page or keep the link so you can return easily. Your draft will not follow you to another browser or device and may be lost if you use private browsing, clear your browser’s site data or select Clear calculation.

Scope of this tool

This is an indicative dry matter feed budget only. It is not a ration-formulation, nutrition, pasture-growth, farm-cover, economic or animal-health tool. Nothing you enter leaves this device.
